With a recent decommitment, what does Miami DB board look like

By: Eric Moore

Ladarius Tennison re-opened his commitment this week, after visits to Clemson University and the University of North Carolina. While that would suggest those schools sit pretty high on his board, Auburn and Texas A&M are recruiting him hard as well.

Tennison committed to the University of Miami back in February, and the plan all along was to take 4 or 5 defensive backs. 2 or 3 cornerbacks and 2 safeties, and Tennison was one of the safety spots. Currently Miami holds pledges from South Dade standout Jaiden Francois and Amite cornerback Daran Branch, and South Dade safety Keshawn Washington. While Washington and Branch seem like future striker position guys, it seems that the defensive back board should still be pretty deep.

Coach Rumph and Coach Banda would like to land top cornerbacks Elias Ricks and Kelee Ringo, but doesn’t seem like that’s possible unless they visit. Fred Davis and Henry Gray are the top two corners in Florida, but Davis recently committed to Clemson and Davis seems Ohio State bound. Miles Brooks and Demorie Tate are cornerbacks the coaches had contact previously with, but seen that they aren’t much interested in. Jalen Harrell may sit pretty high on the defensive back board, and he has visited a couple times. Ethan Pouncey and Kendall Dennis both have offers, but Dennis is higher on the board for the Hurricanes. Pouncey seems higher on Florida and Texas. Jahquez Robinson and Derek Bermudez are teammates at Sandalwood, but Bermudez seems to be a take for the Hurricanes and they believe Robinson is firm to his Alabama commitment.

While the cornerback position looks to be more of a take for the Hurricanes, the safety position is a need as there are question marks this year on who will be the start and backups. Avantae Williams and Keshawn Lawrence are arguably your top 2 wants. Williams was previously committed to the Hurricanes, but re-opened his recruitment and committing to Oregon early this year. Lawrence is a legacy and has visited the Hurricanes early this year, and it seems that it’s a LSU-UM battle for him. Lejond Cavazos seems to be a recruit the Hurricanes are high on, but he seems to be leaning toward the buckeyes. Jerrold Pough and Ronald Delancy are a couple guys that the coaches are keeping tabs on, Pough currently holds an offer and Delancy doesn’t yet. Deidrick Stanley is an athlete that is on the board, but they see him as possibly playing nickel. Stanley is planning to make a commitment soon, but doesn’t seem like he’s a take currently.

The thing that makes the defensive back board interesting is who will be converted to striker. Each class will likely take 1 or 2 kids as a striker, and a recruit is usually told they will be given an opportunity to play defensive back and striker. So a class could be take 4-6 defensive backs.
